Microbial Ecology

all different types of microbes

Microbes rule the world. As complex and powerful drivers of biogeochemical processes, microbes influence human health, global climate, nutrient availability to plants, element cycling in soils and extreme environments, and the evolution of the atmosphere over geologic time.

We use in situ and high-resolution lab techniques like quantitative stable isotope probing (qSIP) to delve into this diverse microbial realm and measure how the invisible masses eat, grow, and respond to changing and complex environments.
